Vision Art is an art project which Yazawa considers his lifework, but it is also a form of “commissioned art” that emerges from dialogue. However, unlike many commissioned artworks which are often public art pieces commissioned by museums and cultural institutions, one of the distinctive features of the Vision Art project is that the clients are mostly private individuals.

Yazawa engages in a deep dialogue with the client, and this becomes his source material for creating the work. Everyone has their own reasons for commissioning a work, but for many it marks a threshold, an important life event. Yazawa describes the experience of painting a Vision Art work in this way, “it’s as if I’m looking out from the client’s inner world and capturing a fragment of that world in paint.” Once the work is complete, a dialogue between the client and work begins, and this is a dialogue that continues in their everyday life. This dialogue-based process set in motion by the client’s decision to place a commission with the artist, is also in some senses a creative and spiritual collaboration between the client and Yazawa.

When I’m painting a Vision Art work there are moments when I feel myself, my ego, disappearing.
I know I’m the one who’s painting, and yet it’s not really me.
Then I realized artists often begin by expression which springs from the ego,
but the ultimate goal is to go beyond the ego, to transcend the ego.
I don’t know if that’s a universal truth, but that’s what I aspire to. That’s my goal.
